Types

Types are used to add information or group entities. They are hierarchical and can be accessed and edited via the Types menu item.

With this feature the model and user interface (forms) can be adapted for specific research interests.

The type names can't include round brackets because they are already used for labels in directed types e.g. "parent of (child of)".

Custom types

Custom types can be created, deleted and renamed (manager or admin role needed).

So it is possible to add new types e.g. "hair color" for persons.
These type hierarchies can be configured to allow single or multiple choices (but once they are multiple you can't switch back later).
A type can be used for multiple entities e.g. a hierarchy "importance" for places, actors and groups.

The default installation comes with one example custom type: Sex which is used for actors.

Value types

Value types can be created, deleted and renamed (manager or admin role needed).

The default installation comes with an example value type Dimensions with the subtypes Height and Weight which are used for finds.

When entering new sub types it is important to specify the unit in the description so that user know what to enter (e.g. millimeter or centimeter)

A value type can be used for multiple entities e.g. "Dimensions" for finds and persons.

Values can be entered as decimals.

System types

System types cannot be deleted or renamed although their subtypes can be edited. They come with a few examples in the default installation.

They are single select only and are displayed in overview tables. In forms they appear with a "Type" label.

Actor Actor Relation

Defines the relationships between one actor and another. These relationships can be:

- directional e.g. parent of (child of): actor A is the father of actor B while actor B is the son of actor A
- or be the same in both directions e.g. friend of: actor A is friend of actor B and vice versa, actor B is friend of actor A

Actor Function

Defines an actor's function within a group or legal body. An actor can for example be member of a legal body and this membership is defined by a certain function/role during a certain period of time. E.g. Actor "Charlemagne" is member of the legal body "Frankish Reign" from 768-814 in the function of "King" and he is member of the legal body "Roman Empire" from 800 to 814 in the function "Emperor".
