Description

A presentation of historical data that can be very useful is the presentation in a timeline. Here I propose the widget https://www.simile-widgets.org/timeline/ which although it is very old and abandoned, I have not seen it surpassed by any other. I highlight these features:

  • ability to zoom in time to the lower bands
  • ability to show information for each item
I propose to configure two 'standard' timelines:
  • Events -
  • People: Life periods, dates with events

It will require some prior configuration to
- Define the start date, end date (can be calculated from the DB)
- The time intervals to mark (1 year, 5 years, 10 years, etc.)
- Which lower bands it should have. In the case of history I could imagine three bands

Proposed lower bands:
  • Lower band: Eras (Paelolithic, neolithic, ... middle ages, modern, )
  • Intermediate band: Subperiods of the eras
  • Upper band: period of kings, one band for each kingdom

and will also need filters (see discussion on faceted search https://redmine.openatlas.eu/issues/2520 ) to filter the data you want to show
