Map editing breaks upon save w/o edit

Description
steps to reproduce:
- click and edit any map item
- without actually editing click save
- expected behaviour: save geojson on map to appropriate form fields, add map item to display layer, remove from edit layer
- actual behaviour: geojson not updated (-> label/description edits ignored), item remains in edit layer
