Description

A source normally have a date, but in editor doesn't appear date fields. I see at API export of Openatlas there are date fields in E33 source entity ( begin_from, begin_to, end_from, end_to, ...)

Also will be useful have a field like author > link to a person or group (or also be able to assign a 'involvement' to persons for creation of documents (for instance: a person can be 'witness', another person can be 'notary', ...)

This behavior is intended (that's why I turned this issue to a question).

A source is more the idea of the text and kind of timeless in itself but you can create artifacts to track information about physical objects.
Let's take the case of a letter (a detailed example is provided in the manual), you could create:
  • A source to enter the content (and attach a translations, a scan, ...)
  • An artifact as the physical representation of the letter with dates, types (e.g. the material of the letter)
  • The artifact can than be linked to the source as a carrier of this information
You can even go further and
  • create the letter writing as a creation event
  • add additional dates, place of creation, involved persons (e.g. author, witness, ...) and so on
  • The letter artifact can than be added to e.g. a move event to present the letter sending
  • ...

I hope this explains the possibilities in OpenAtlas. I'm aware that the workflow may seem a little complex for just "entering a source" but you may already see the many usages (and the tracking of details) this can have and it is combined with still being mapped valid in the CIDOC model.
On the other hand, there are already ideas to make the user interface "easier" for entering such data, see e.g. #1064 (Restructure UI for historical sources) where you might want to add.

Anyway, thank you for you question, it is a good reminder that a better suited user interface for this topics would be helpful.
