Description

With the planned text annotation feature we will need a widget than enables users to enter, update and delete text annotations in comfortable and save way.
In this issue we track ideas and updates about it.

@Olivia Reichl - because we are thinking about right-to-left writing functionality (#2388) I would kindly ask to keep an eye out for that, e.g. when choosing a widget for text annotation.
The text annotation still has the higher priority but in case you find information about the feasibility of including right-to-left writing, please add them to this issue (#2388).

In the last developer meeting Olivia presented the text annotation widget prototype which was well received.
Requested adaptions included:
  • Change the "description" label to "comment"
  • Provide a text area instead of a line input

With my local installation I have the problem that the widget buttons to edit/delete annotations automatically submit the form.
Not sure what triggers that behavior. Bernhard told of similar problems which he solved with using spans styled as buttons instead of buttons.

Integration of the widget into OpenAtlas worked good so far.
One minor display bug was found: if e.g. 3 annotations were created and the middle one is deleted, the one above disappears as well in the list (not in the text). If than submitted it is still there, so it is only a display bug.
It also reappears in the list if the text is edited before submitting but it still should be fixed to prevent confusion.

The widget is now integrated in the OpenAtlas application in the develop branch.
It is also available for testing at the development demo, see: https://demo-dev.openatlas.eu/entity/221463

A few issues I noticed today:
  • If an annotation is linked to an entity this information "disappears" in the annotation list below if edited again. Not sure why, even if I use the original created annotation text this still happens.
  • Annotation over line breaks doesn't seem to work
  • Can you please change the label of the annotation button from "Annotate" to "Annotate (experimental)" to reflect that it is still in progress.

Thank you for solving latest issues.
For a better overview I will close this issue but keep a joined issue list at the #2079 (Text annotation) ticket.
