Description

Is it possible to link an event with a feature of a place? For example, I want to show that an event occurred at a specific point (a gate) of a fortification wall (and not throughout the fortification line), without losing the places hierarchy (i.e. that the gate is a feature of the fortification wall). However, it seems that this is not currently possible.

Update
After feedback from Stefan we decided to not only make it possible to link events to features but also make it possible to link
  • any sub unit to events
  • any sub units to be able to be linked to everything else a place could be linked to, e.g. to sources, references, ...

As far as I know it is not possibility currently to link a feature with an event directly.
I hand it over to our model expert Stefan, kindly asking for more input on that topic.

We discussed it in today's developer meeting, currently these links are not possible.
It should be doable with the model, would be a nice addition.
So we put in on the roadmap but we have to think it through and plan it in more detail before implementing it.

We could extend the event relations (such as they are available on the "place" level) to each kind of physical thing in the OpenAtlas system. This would allow for documenting all kinds of events connected to physical things.

This is going to be an important feature for semantic relations between physical things and their ties to humans, places, events etc.
I suggest we discuss this at the next developer meeting, as we would probably have to redesign some of the forms/functionalites in order to keep the usage as intuitive as possible.

Thank you Stefan for your input about this. It's already on the roadmap and the next developers meeting agenda so I just remove you as assignee for now.

As discussed, I implemented that sub units can be linked to everything else a place could be linked to, e.g. to events, sources, references, ...

One drawback might be for projects like THANADOS that now tables that were filled with about 5,000 entries now contain about 30,000 (with all the subunits) which might lead to performance problems on slower machines. E.g. at a move event where two place inputs are used (from and to) insert/edit might take a few seconds to load but we will wait for feedback about that.

However, implementation is in develop now.
